Basic training

I enlisted into the Marines on March 9, 1950, with graduation on June 14, 1950. My first memory is getting off the bus at 3 am and stepping onto yellow footprints on the deck by (Iron Mike) at P.I. with the DIs yelling.
Also that day I wrote and told my mom not to write or send any cards, cookies, etc.; I didn’t want to be noticed right off the bat.
After rifle range practice that all changed. I shot the high score in (PLT 30) and after the DI learned my name, he used it as often as he could. Graduation day was my fondest memory. It was when I received my globe and anchor pin and was called a United States Marine. SEMPER FI!
