SAN ANTONIO – (March 28, 2025) – U.S. Army veteran and Fred Brock American Legion Post 828 Legionnaire Keith Toney was honored during a Quilt of Valor® (QOV) Ceremony held at the Vietnam Army Grunts Museum.
A QOV is a quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand-quilted. It is awarded to a servicemember or veteran who has been touched by war. The quilt says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”
The ceremony was conducted by Army veteran Joseph Bray, the South Texas Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and Quilts of Honor Group No. 559. A total of 15 veterans were presented with a QOV during the ceremony.
Toney, a former District 2 Councilman for the City of San Antonio, enlisted in the Army in 1971. In 1973 he deployed to Da Nang, Vietnam, serving one tour, and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1974 as a specialist.
“I was honored to receive the Quilt of Valor,” said Toney, a member of the Post 828 Board of Trustees. “I am still in awe.”
Other Post 828 Legionnaires who have received a QOV have included Burrell Parmer and Graddie Robinson.
To honor veterans who served during the Vietnam War, Post 828 hosted its annual National Vietnam War Veterans Day Program at the post event center March 29.
Sponsored by Toney, the Willie Watson Family and Sons of The American Legion Squadron 828, the event provided guests with free food and live entertainment by Vee Love & the Boys.
