Hurd Welch Post 90 in Raymond recently honored and remembered the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who served their country during the Korean War, and recognizing the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement that ended all hostilities 70 years ago. (PHOTO 1)
Those in attendance, along with their guest, were served a hearty meal and had the opportunity to converse with others who had served.
Following the meal, Commander Tom Pepin commenced a ceremony with a salute to the colors, a chaplain’s invocation, the recognition of the empty POW/MIA chair and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Pepin spoke of that time and the many battles that ensued. He told them, “I cannot adequately put into words the hardships our servicemembers endured.” Getting emotional, he continued, “As a 60-year old man who served during the mid-'80s, I am at a loss to sufficiently express my gratitude to the men and women who served so courageously and selflessly in Korea. I share my heartfelt thanks.”
His officers then read greetings from the office of Congressman Pappas, Maj. Gen. David Mikolaities, adjutant general of the New Hampshire National Guard, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III.
All in attendance were grateful for the recognition of their heroes and remembrance of their service.
