Milwaukie, Ore., to host Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Remembrance event April 5

MILWAUKIE, OR – March 27, 2025 – American Legion Milwaukie Post 180 is partnering with the City of Milwaukie and the Susannah Lee Barlow Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to host a Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Remembrance event on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Scott Park (10660 SE 21st Ave.).

The event will honor the service and sacrifice of Vietnam-era veterans and their families, and will include:
Opening remarks by Milwaukie City Recorder Scott Stauffer
A formal proclamation by Mayor Lisa Batey
Presentation of colors by the American Legion Post 180 Honor Guard
Remarks from civic and community leaders, including:
Milwaukie City Councilors Adam Khosroabadi and Robert Massey
Post 180 Commander Mike Lueck
DAR Regent Nancy McCrary
Vietnamese Community of Oregon President Thao Duc Tu
State Rep. Mark Gamba

Following the formal program, attendees will participate in a procession to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where the names of local fallen servicemembers will be read aloud as carnations are laid in tribute. Vietnam veterans will also be eligible to receive a 50th Anniversary commemorative pin, provided by the DAR.
This event is part of the City’s official recognition of Vietnam War Remembrance Day, as proclaimed by Mayor Batey and the city council, and reflects the ongoing commitment of the community to support and remember its veterans. The event also raises awareness for the Corporal Diffie Fund, a local resource established to provide emergency assistance to veterans in need.
