On July 1, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) honored their veteran of the month. Done every month, the post honors a fallen member or family member of someone in the post. The previous veteran-of-the-month flag is brought down and presented to a family member of that veteran. Then the honor guard accepts the new flag from a family member of the new veteran of the month and raises that flag. The ceremony opens and closes with prayer by our chaplain and with the flag being raised. The commander reads the short biography of the new veteran of the month. On the first of the next month, the flag will come down and be presented back to that family member prior to a new flag honoring a new veteran of the month being raised. Every month the whole program is kicked off by our American Legion Riders arriving and parking the motorcycles in front of the flagpole, the signal the event is about to begin. A moving program to kick off the first of every month.
