Local VFW members and the Crittenden County Challengers united to add a patriotic touch to Marion, Ky., by painting several fire hydrants with the stars and stripes in red, white and blue. While the project was underway, it became the talk of the town, putting smiles on many people's faces during this stressful time in America.

The project has led to what is believed to be the sole POW/MIA themed painted fire hydrant in the United States, possibly unique in the world, situated next to the VFW Lodge.
