Fred Brock Post 828 becomes certifying organization for PVSA

San Antonio, TX

SAN ANTONIO – (Jan. 22, 2025) – Fred Brock American Legion Post 828 applied and was recently approved as an official certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).

According to the PVSA, the program honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to act.

Led by AmeriCorps and managed in partnership with Points of Light, the program allows certifying organizations to recognize their most exceptional volunteers.

“Fred Brock Post is pleased to have been accepted to certify community service hours of our members, and others, in support of the program,” said Post Commander Burrell Parmer. “We have many members who volunteer in the community and in support of the post. They should receive presidential recognition for their volunteerism.”

According to Parmer, the process for certification was simple.

“All the eligibility requirements are on the PVSA website,” he said. “We received approval within a week. Now the post can begin recognizing volunteers based on their hours of service, and age, with the appropriate level of recognition for the PVSA.”

Certifying organizations are responsible for verifying and certifying that volunteers and their volunteer hours meet the requirements to receive a PVSA within a 12-month period.

In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the PSVA to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity.

“It is important to note that a certifying organization can dictate which 12-month period is utilized as the qualify period,” said Parmer. “Post 828 will use the calendar year and will be able to certify hours for the past (2024) calendar year.”
