I am the financial officer for Post 201 in Powhatan, Va., but was the athletic director for many years. Incidentally, our post was where Justin Verlander played his Legion ball. I was going through some old clippings in my father's (Edward C. Johnson) papers and found this photo of his Amherst, Va., Post 98 baseball team. My father was probably 17 or 18 at the time, so this would make the year to be 1942 or '43. He also played one season for Post 274 in Madison Heights, Va., but I can't tell if it was before or after this photo. He enlisted in the Marines in '44. He went on to become commander of Post 137 of Chesterfield, Va. My dad, Ed, is the second from the left on the back row.
