The American Legion national commander, Jim LaCoursiere, stopped by Post 2 in Bristol, Conn., for a dinner in his honor. After the meal Joe Caminiti, Iwo Jima survivor, stopped by. The day before the dinner Joe had returned from a trip to Guam and Iwo Jima. Joe and Post Historian Neal Supranovich, who escorted him to Guam and Iwo Jima., presented the commander with sand from Iwo Jima Joe collected from the beach where he landed Marines some 80 years ago, as well as a book from the Iwo Jima Association of America about the battle.
The post commander presented a few items for the national commander's travel.
A local TV station was on hand to film the event.
