No driving test needed

I got such a kick out of an article in your March 2017 Basic Training Memories, “Never raise your hand,” I thought I’d share a similar story:

I was in the Navy 1946-47 in the submarine service. When I returned to Williamsburg, Va., awaiting assignment for work duties, our man in charge asked us if anyone had a driver’s license. Of course, many hands were waving. About five of those stepped forward. The man in charge said to the five, “See those five wheelbarrows over there? Each of you take one and start driving them around the area. Clean up all the junk and trash you can find!”
