On Friday, Aug, 19, 2022, American Legion Post 67 of Rincon, Puerto Rico, embarked on a mission to support a veteran and community member encountering health issues. Post 67 Legionnaires first gathered in front of Antonio Sandoval, a Korean War veteran and former Post 67 Legion member, with clothing donated by Legion member Awilda Candelaria and a $500 Walmart card for a donation by VFW veteran Mr. Salvador to shop for essential needs. Post 67 Commander Carlos Bonet and Treasurer Tania Soto, accompanied Sandoval for a shopping day at Walmart. “It is a very rewarding feeling being able to support and help every veteran and Legionnaire in need. That is why the American Legion exists,” said Bonet.
Post 67 also made a stop to donate a gift card for Samuel Vializ Silva, a civilian community member with terminal health issues and financial need. Elba Mendez Munoz, a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 67, was instrumental in identifying and coordinating the visit. A sunrise cake was presented to Vializ Silva to celebrate his birthday.
These few days were very impactful and showed a spirit of camaraderie, both of the American Legion members and the community at large. Post 67 is proud to support their community.
