I was approached by a woman at Sam’s Club in Monroe, La., who had noticed my veteran ball cap and thanked me for my service. In response, I asked if she or any of her family members had served, to which she replied with an extensive list of family members who served from World War II through to Vietnam.
She asked if I had a minute to see something. When we arrived at her car, she took out a burial flag that had been awarded in honor of her father-in-law and had been recently damaged in a house fire. She had recently retrieved it from the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum, where a volunteer had restored it to a presentable condition.
She stood with me and cried as I asked to take this photo. It was the first opportunity for anyone to see the restored banner. What an honor and privilege.
