Post 195 supports community youth sports

Lugoff, SC

Tuesday, July 30, saw Lugoff's Larry Jeffers American Legion Post 195 and Auxiliary Unit 195 spread its support for youth sports in the county. The post's newly installed commander, Ruppert Baird, visited Lugoff-Elgin High School and the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department office to present each with checks.

At L-EHS, Baird presented the school's new Athletic Director Leon Boulware with a $1,000 donation to continue the post's Platinum Sponsor with the Trident Club athletic boosters, a role it began during the 2023-2024 school year. This will now extend through at least 2024-2025. Also present to accept the check were Coach Jarvis Littlejohn and Athletic Administrative Assistant Lori Robinson.

In the past 12 months, Post 195 and Unit 195 have begun a concerted effort to better support youth sports in Kershaw County, and especially the West Wateree area. This has led them to sponsor five Recreation Department teams, becoming Trident Club supporters, and sponsoring an inaugural American Legion girls softball team.

After visiting the high school, Baird visited the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department and presented a check to sponsor five teams over fall 2024 and spring 2025. Three teams will be sponsored by Post 195, with two teams sponsored by Unit 195. The Recreation Department's Shane Duncan and Tiffany Bracey accepted the donation.
