Operation Frequent Wind - a letter home

Fernandina Beach, FL

The letter I wrote my parents in Fresno, Calif., on April 24, 1975, from USS Midway. I was a lieutenant in VA-93.

"Dear Mom & Dad,

Got a few minutes here between dinner and another lecture. When We're not flying, they always find a lot of "necessary" lectures to give.
The ships sitting about 50 miles off Saigon loaded to the gills with Airforce helicopters waiting for the word to evacuate Saigon. It has to wait until the city's attacked but now with Thieu resigned, no one knows when that will be. So we just sit here.
We were out here for the Cambodian evacuation, then went into port in Cubi and were there only 3 days before being called out for this.
Everything else remains the same. Got my written orders in the mail so everything is firm for leaving in August.
Not much else to say. Take care and I'll see you soon.

Love, Jamie"
