Our American Legion Post 127 has a few traditions for the holiday season I would like to share.
The Sunday before Thanksgiving, the post hosts a Thanksgiving dinner for the Legion family and anyone in the community who wants to celebrate.
A week or so before Christmas, the Legion hosts a Christmas dinner, which is also open to the community. In addition to a great meal, Santa arrives with a procession of two-cylinder reindeer. Santa meets with all of the children and lets the children pick a gift from many tables full of toys. The American Legion Auxiliary holds a spaghetti fundraiser a month before to help pay for the toys for the children in the community.
It’s also around this time where the post participates in Wreaths Across America to purchase and put wreaths on veterans' graves in our adopted cemetery in Monroe, Ga.
