The Sisterhood Continues

The Colony, TX

In a heartwarming celebration of their courage and service, the women of American Legion Post 21 in The Colony, Texas, gathered to commemorate Women Veterans Day with a luncheon that exuded camaraderie and appreciation. The event, held on June 22, 2024, was a delightful blend of culinary delights and shared stories from these brave women who have served their country. The luncheon was a well-organized affair put together by Post 21 friend, Amanda Porter, with assistance from her daughter, Ella.

Beautifully decorated tables greeted the attendees as they arrived. Catered food, featuring an array of delicious dishes, awaited them. Soft music, candles and fresh flowers at each place setting added an air of elegance and festivity.

As the women settled in, the true essence of the event began to unfold. Twelve veterans, each with a unique and inspiring story, took turns sharing their experiences. Their narratives were as diverse as the women themselves. Some spoke of the challenges they faced and the strength they discovered within themselves. The stories were a testament to the resilience, courage and unwavering commitment women veterans have to their country.

U.S. Army veteran, Skyla Hood, remarked, “The women veterans luncheon filled me with pride and gratitude, celebrating the strength and sisterhood of remarkable women. It was very much appreciated!”

To add to the celebratory spirit, gift bags were distributed to all the women containing tokens of appreciation and a specially designed commemorative shirt. The gift bags were a small gesture to honor and thank them for their service and sacrifice.

As the luncheon drew to a close, the women of Post 21 left with hearts full of pride and a renewed sense of community. The event not only celebrated their service but also reinforced the bonds that connect them and forever make them a family. U.S. Navy veteran, Linda Camerlin, stated, “The luncheon was fantastic with all the camaraderie and finding out more about my sister veterans. I felt very special and thankful to be part of this wonderful organization."

It was a day of reflection, recognition, and above all, a celebration of the indomitable spirit of women veterans. At Post 21, the Sisterhood continues…
