UNIVERSAL CITY, Texas – (April 12, 2025) – The “Mighty” 20th District, Department of Texas held their annual Spring Convention at Missing Man Post 667.
During the morning session, Legionnaires heard from representatives from VFBA and WellCare.
According to District Commander Eric Mayer of Business and Professional Post 10, the convention was a celebration of excellence in the 20th District and the community.
“It is a representation of the cooperation that makes our district one that is great — both in spirit and by any and all objective criteria,” Mayer said.
In addition to receiving various reports from committees, the Legionnaires were briefed on the Veterans Affairs’ Health & Benefits mobile app by Legionnaire Suzzie Thomas of Alamo Post 2, while Mayer spoke about the Legion+ app and District Sgt.-at-Arms Ace Tounsel of William James Bordelon Post 300 spoke about attending the national conventions.
Afterwards, Mayer presented district-level National Security Program Awards:
Law Enforcement Officer of the Year: Sgt. Gloria Lewis
Firefighter of the Year: Joshua Smith
Firefighter of the Year: Zachary Moore (2024)
Emergency Medical Technician of the Year: Cory Ramon
National Guard/Reservist of the Year: Staff Sgt. Lindsey Neubauer
Additionally, Mayer recognized dedicated members of the district, to include Legionnaire Pamela Oliver-Shepheard of Fred Brock Post 828 as the 20th District Legionnaire of the Year.
“I loved seeing officers from across the district coming together,” said Mayer. “We’d love to see the Spring Convention attended by more members and make it into an event more appealing to our general membership.”
A special guest invited to the convention was two-time 20th District Oratorical Contest winner Sophia Logsdon, a senior attending Reagan High School, who delivered an outstanding oration that allowed her to earn top honors at the 3rd Division Oratorical Contest.
