Legionnaire and Judge Advocate Steve Tharp represented Lewis L. Millett American Legion Post 38 of South Korea during the United Nations Command Security Battalion-Joint Security Area (UNCSB-JSA) Truck Ambush Memorial Service conducted on April 14, 2025. Post 38 contributed a wreath for the memorial. The event was held at Camp Bonifas, South Korea, a United Nations Command military post located 400 m (1,300 ft) south of the southern boundary of the Korean Demilitarized Zone.
The UNCSB-JSA Truck Ambush Memorial honored the four United Nations Command soldiers - Sgt. James L. Anderson, SPC Larry M. Wood, CPL Lee Son Kyoo and PFC Kim K. Hong - who were killed Easter Sunday, April 14, 1968, when North Korean soldiers ambushed a UNC truck transporting UNC relief guard to the Joint Security Area (JSA) and Neutral Nation (Swiss/Swede) camp. The North Korean soldiers, using small arms, automatic weapon fire and hand grenades, succeeded in stopping the truck and attempted to kill all six soldiers aboard. They withdrew across the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) after killing four soldiers and wounded two soldiers.
