In June, the Post 289 executive committee members were elected for 2024-2025. The post leadership committee formally meets monthly to coordinate and direct the programs and volunteer efforts of the post.
We are also proud to say that our own Roy West was selected to be the newest commander of the 6th District Sons of The American Legion, while Ernest Schmidt was selected to be the 6th District Scouting chairman.

Since Post 289 was chartered in 2016. membership has grown to more than 300 members, many of whom reside throughout Montgomery County. Dedicated to caring for veterans, servicemembers and their families, the post also sponsors programs that mentor community youth and provide temporary financial assistance, emergency aid for disasters and educational scholarships. We help veterans with their VA benefits and provide volunteer services at assisted living and senior centers. Our veteran volunteers are dedicated to community service.
Since starting Post 289, we have formed an American Legion Riders chapter as well as a new Sons of The American Legion squadron. If you are a spouse of a veteran, you can join our American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289. This is a small group at the time and could use more membership. (Yes, male spouses can join too.)
I do not want to forget about our Scouting program. We charter Scout Troop 289. They are always looking for new leadership as well as Scouts. If you have a son or daughter 10 ½ or older, they can become one of the most successful Scouting troops in the Cogioba District of the Middle Tennessee Council located in Clarksville.
