The Hammondsport American Legion held its annual Memorial Day services on May 27, 2024, starting at the Veteran’s Honor Roll Memorial in the town square. Veteran Dave Venezia placed the wreath at the memorial. This was followed by a small parade to Main Street Cemetery.
Post 407 Commander J.P. Oliver, his three daughters and Dave Venezia rode in the Army Jeep to the cemetery. Commander Oliver led the services by welcoming the community and guests. Chaplain Christopher Reneau led the services with a prayer and the Scouts did a reading of “In Flanders Field.” After that, guest speaker Venezia delivered a speech about Memorial Day. The Hammondsport Central High School band played patriotic songs, Venezia placed a wreath, and the Legion color guard did a salute.
The ceremony was concluded with the band playing taps. After concluding the services, the community was invited to Post 407 for light refreshments.
The Hammondsport American Legion thanks the members, community and guests for helping and attending the annual Memorial Day services.
