On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the American Legion Sixth District Spring Conference, held at Post 16 of Covington, La., made an announcement during the awards presentation. Mr. Mike Ross, a member of Bayou Liberty Post 374, located at 2233 Carey Street, was declared the recipient of the M.C. “Mike” Gehr Blue Cap Award. The Blue Cap Award is awarded annually at the District and State conventions. This award acknowledges a member of the post that is hard-working, dependable, volunteer-oriented and who has served for his/her post for at least five years. Mr. Ross served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 and the U.S. Coast Guard from 1967 to 1988. Throughout the years, Mr. Ross has served as post commander, 1st vice commander, 2nd vice commander, adjutant, finance officer, service officer and staff judge advocate. He has been a member of the Bayou Liberty Post 374 for 27 years.
