Beaverdam, Va., reaches out on Memorial Day

Post 90 - Beaverdam, VA

Each year, SYNERGY HomeCare of Central Virginia donates 100 American flags to The American Legion Post 90 in Beaverdam for placement on gravestones of veterans in their community and nearby.

For Memorial Day of 2024, flags were placed in 10 cemeteries in Western Hanover County, Va., and Buffalo, N.Y. One hundred and fifty-six flags were placed to honor our veterans.

For the Riverside Baptist Church in Beaverdam, which has its cemetery on-site, Post 90 members attended the church service and handed out flags to the congregation so they could place them on the gravesites of their family members who had served our country.

Every Memorial Day Saturday, Matt Enderle, a busy CEO and member of the post, visits the cemetery where his family is buried. Along with his friends, he places flags on the graves of veterans in his family and on any other veterans' gravesites they can find.

Each year, Post 90 has made the placement of the American flags on Memorial Day weekend an active community effort. The simple act of placing a flag provides an opportunity for individuals to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans.
