On Oct. 1, John J. Morris Post 62 honored Army veteran Albin Derbis as Veteran of the Month. Each month we honor a family-member veteran of one of our members. It all starts with the Riders pulling in to let everyone know it's time to gather at the flagpole. The commander calls for the honor guard to come out. They lower and fold the flag from the previous Veteran of the Month. The flag is then raised for the new Veteran of the Month as the chaplain reads information on their life and service. Shelley, daughter of this month's veteran, said after the event she did not realize how hard it would hit her and fill her with pride.
