On Oct. 5, American Legion Post 129 in Huntsville, Utah, hosted a 25-mile bike ride for 18 disabled veterans from the Salt Lake City VA adaptive program. Throughout the summer the VA has been working with this group of veterans to build up their strength for the ride. Most of the veterans were in recumbent bikes to make the trek. The adaptive office has teamed up with Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports (OVAS), a nonprofit outdoor recreation program, to help get these veterans out and moving again. Throughout the year the VA and OVAS have been getting veterans out to ski, snowboard, kayak, rock climb and bike. It’s been a very successful partnership for the VA, OVAS and Post 129.
