David Wilson, a 100% service-connected disabled Air Force veteran, has been operating a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Vancleave, Miss., for over five years. He spent his entire life savings to build a beautiful 2,400-sq.-ft. dojo next to his home in order to allow the nonprofit to teach disabled veterans traditional Japanese jujutsu for free. He also serves in the DAV as the sergeant at arms for the Gautier Chapter 17 post, and is an athletic director for Team RWB (Red, White and Blue), another veteran-serving nonprofit organization that functions nationwide.
Wilson formed the nonprofit in 2019 to help solicit support for his program. Currently, they have plenty of space left on their mats for more veterans who would benefit from learning jujutsu, which has been shown to be tremendously helpful for physical and mental rehabilitation, especially for those suffering from anxiety disorders.
