John J. Morris Post 62 honors Junior Air Rifle team with pizza party

John J. Morris Post 62 - Peoria, AZ

On Dec. 5, John J. Morris Post 62 honored their Junior Air Rifle team with a pizza party after their final practice of the year. They are the only American Legion Junior Air Rifle team in the state of Arizona. This means our juniors (average age 13) can only compete against high school JROTC programs. Proudly, our youngsters always finish in the middle of the tournament, beating half the high schools! The kitchen at the post donated the pizza in support of the youth. Team Captain Tom McClain is excited about this year's team and the future, as many of the shooters have younger brothers and sisters who come to practice and look forward to their chance to be old enough to participate. We salute the 10 youth on this year's teams.

Team Captain Tom McClain, with assistant Rod Tiner, supervise the practice. They practice twice a week after school for several months to do tournaments all season long.

Teenagers do love pizza! Wait - everyone loves pizza.
