SAN ANTONIO – (April 5, 2025) – In support of the American Legion Blood Donor Program, Fred Brock American Legion Post 828, partnering with Lilly of the Valley Baptist Church, hosted a blood drive at the post parking lot.
The program has existed officially since 1942 to help that cause. People have held blood drives and given blood since community service became an American value.
“The American Legion is committed to helping those in need and one of the most effective ways to help others, medically, is through the donation of blood,” said Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms Billy Hill. “I'm not sure when the post held its last drive; however, I think this is an opportunity to build momentum going forward.”
This was Hill’s first time donating blood, and he would like to collaborate with other entities that could help the post expand its reach into the community.
“With community service as one of its pillars, it's only natural that The American Legion be heavily involved in blood donation efforts,” Hill said.
Special thanks to the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, Steven Owens Jr., Hill and Service Officer Marcellus Hutchinson for their support.
The mission of Fred Brock Post 828 is to enhance the well-being of San Antonio’s veterans, their families, the military and the community by its devotion to mutual helpfulness.
