Snow watch

I reported to Naval Station Great Lakes in December 1963. Being from Jacksonville, Fla., I had never seen snow in my life. I stepped off the train into four feet of it. I wanted to make snowballs. Instead I had “snow-watch” after my first couple of days there. On snow watch, I was awakened at night if it snowed and had to shovel snow for a couple of hours on the “grinder.”
Fortunately, it never snowed when I had snow watch.
