A call went out from Ct. State Rep. Cara Amato that dog bedding and blankets were needed at rescue centers due to the large number of dogs being taken in. Thus Post 2 responded to the call. 24 hand sewed dog blankets were given to the Rep. Amato. A few weeks later another group of 6 were turned over. These blanket type quilts were made to be washed and reused. These blankets were used in the shelters, this donation was used to promote the program.
This is not the first time this type of donation was made. Over the years Post 2 has donated blanket/quilt to other organizations and to military working dogs around the world over the years. One blanket was sent to a dog who was at ground zero on 911. A few years ago an organization called MUTTS for Humanity contacted the Post. They help Veterans to get dogs from dog pounds and help the Veterans to train them. We learned they had a group of veterans who had trouble affording bedding. Thus, the Post donated a number of the dog blankets to MUTTS to help the Veterans and their dog.
The blankets were made in Maine by a quilter. They were made for Animal Hospital. When the quilter found out they used them once then threw them away she got mad. Thus she stop making them for the animal hospitals and contacted a family member in Post 2. Thus Post 2 took it from there.
