John J. Morris Post 62 Riders lead with respect for veterans

Peoria, AZ

The John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) Riders lead the way in showing respect for veterans and their families. About 18 months ago, the Riders showed up in force for a Veteran of the Month ceremony. That week they voted to kick off the Veteran of the Month every month, and have done so since. The day of the week affects how many can ride in to start the ceremony because so many are still working. They ride into the post, circle the building and line up the bikes in front of the flagpole for the ceremony. They stand at attention, support the event and add several more veterans to the ceremony. They also take the lead whenever dignitaries are coming to the post by providing an escort for their vehicles for the event. I would like to take a minute here to share a quote from one of the Riders sharing their thoughts.
"We believe we are honoring the Veteran of the Month by riding and lining up by the flag. We enjoy spending the time by acknowledging the family of the fallen veteran. We believe in showing respect where it should be. The Riders doing escorts for visiting dignitaries in position is the Riders should be doing by showing respect by and for our post." Thank you, Road Captain Ken Ellison, for your time and quote. The Riders lead by example in supporting our veterans.

When the event ends, they move out of the parking lot and into their parking places before coming inside to acknowledge the family.

On weekends when more are available, there are always at least 10 to 12 Riders paying their respects.
