SAN ANTONIO – (Jan. 3, 2025) – Members, families and friends showed up to cheer on their favorite singer at the finals of Fred Brock American Legion Post 828’s talent show dubbed “Showtime at Post 828,” held at the post’s event center.

The show was created to provide an opportunity for veterans and locals to perform and win cash prizes.
According to its creator, post commander Burrell Parmer, the event augments the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Appreciation Nights that are held on the first Friday of each month.

“The post provided cash prizes to the top winners of this show,” said Parmer, who served as the host, delivering several jokes to entertain guests. “For each of the first two shows, the post was able to distribute $500 in cash prizes with the finals extending to $1,000.”

Three participants from the first two shows advanced to compete in the finals with each contestant being required to conduct two performances. The contestants were judged on the following criteria: showmanship, talent and audience appeal.

Judging the contest were Post Financial Officer Jerry Farmer, Auxiliary President Pamela Money and Sons of The American Legion Squadron Commander Wendell Nance.

Congratulations to Farrell Kay Woodruff of San Antonio, who won $500 for first place, and Loretta Parks-Twillie of Detroit, who placed second ($300). Third place was awarded to Grady Peavy Jr. of Birmingham, Ala., who took home $200.
A special thanks to Roundtable Living and Vertex Pain Physicians for sponsoring the event.
