John J. Morris Post 62 visits veterans in total care center, take donations

Peoria, AZ

On Saturday, Sept. 14, John J. Morris Post 62 (Peoria, Ariz.) had 17 members go to a total care center to visit with veterans. They also collected donations from the post, sorted by Legionnaires and the Auxiliary, on Sunday, Sept. 15. This was our second visit there and our number of volunteers doubled. As we go back once a month for the rest of the year, I expect the volunteer numbers to increase. Our folks are making friends to last a lifetime. One Army veteran said, "I want to adopt that guy. I am going to take him a care package every month when we go back." This seems to be the theme from everyone from the post when they get back from the visit. Several are already talking about who they want to have join us in October.

We met in a dining area, and the local staff then broke us up into small groups to go visit the 12 veterans today. The staff is already looking forward to our return. Our visit was on the calendar on the wall to let them know we were coming.

By Sunday, the sorting is done and everything is ready for delivery this week.
