Recently a NJ National Guard unit with members who have served in Iraq was given a new Garrison size American flag courtesy of local resident and Sgt Clendenon Newell Post #1 in Leonia, NJ. The large flag was flown over the Wall Street offices of local resident Jim Tappen and he was looking for a good home for the flag. During flag retirement ceremonies on Flag day, a representative of the NJ National Guard unit's family readiness group inquired if the Post knew of where the unit could find an appropriate garrison flag and the beginnings of a donation where in the works. Early in September the National Guard unit was given the flag with members of the Post, other veterans groups and the FRG in attendance.
