SAN ANTONIO – (April 4, 2025) – To honor military servicemembers and veterans within Military City USA, the Valero Texas Open hosted its annual Night to Honor Our Heroes at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa.
The night, presented by USAA, included a reception and dinner where guests could admire a rare collection of military artifacts while socializing with military and business leaders in the community.
Additionally, the program included music by “Fort Sam’s Own” 323rd Army Band, the presentation of colors by the Joint Base San Antonio Joint Color Guard, and opening remarks from retired Maj. Gen. John Richardson, senior vice president for Military Affairs at USAA, and Lt. Gen. Allan Pepin, commander, U.S. Army North.
The highlight of the program was the dialogue between Dan Hicks of NBC Sports and 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus.
“I truly enjoy attending this event,” said Post Commander Burrell Parmer of Fred Brock American Legion Post 828. “This really demonstrates the love and respect that people and sponsors of the Valero Texas Open have for our military and veteran community here in Military City USA.”
According to information from the Valero Texas Open website, the military is a key part of San Antonio and the Open. And from a historical perspective, it is the only PGA TOUR event to have been played on a military golf course (Fort Sam Houston Golf Course in 1950, 1951, 1956 and 1960).
Fred Brock Post 828’s mission is to enhance the well-being of San Antonio’s veterans, their families, the military and the community by its devotion to mutual helpfulness.
