On August 17 John J. Morris Post 62, Peoria, AZ, had 7 members go to nearby total care facility to meet with veterans living there. We met 6 veterans on our first visit. 3 were bed ridden, 2 in wheelchairs, including double amputee, and one was mobile on his own. It was our first ever visit so did not want to go overboard. After a little over an hour we left and returned to Post. Every veteran there ended their visit with "When are you coming back to see me?". When back at Post discussions continued between those that went. The Auxiliary heard about it and said they would set up donation bins for socks, underwear, toiletries and snacks to take back in the future. We did have some go back twice since then with some donated supplies for the veterans. Next week we meet to discuss when the next visit will happen. They have different total care sections (area we went first time) plus they have separate assisted living center and an independent living center. Current plan is monthly visits with details to follow. As one of our veterans stated afterwards - That moved me, have to continue.
